The Standards of practice for ecosystem restoration include over 300 recommended practices to maximize net gain for nature and people. SOPER Apply help users to identify those practices that will maximize net gain in the context of project resources.
The customizable project proposal or plan and self-assessment checklist are envisioned as strategic incentives to use the tool. Users would be further incentivized by vertical integration of the tool with restoration funding initiatives (e.g., Global Biodiversity Fund, Global Environment Facility, Green Climate Fund) and reporting mechanisms (e.g., FERM) under the UN conventions (CBD, UNCCD, UNFCCC) and UN Decade.

The outputs of SOPER Apply could provide key information for funders and policy makers. These could include understanding the extent to which individual projects and the restoration community are utilizing recommended practices, and assisting in capacity development, grant making and strategic planning. Furthermore, metadata on the relative frequency of different types of restorative activities could assist with understanding progress towards UN convention targets.
